Bollywood loves to take inspiration from international cinema. According to a source, who has seen the script of the movie, Saif Ali Khan’s first production Love Aaj Kal is very similar to a Taiwanese film called Hao De Shi Guang (Three Times).Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film features Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.
“The story moves in three different eras and the lead couple remains the same throughout. In Three Times the film starts in 1911 then moves to 1966 and eventually culminates in 2005,” informs a source about the storyline. The story of Three Times runs in three phases. It features three chronologically separate stories of love between the two protagonists, set in 1911, 1966 and 2005.
In the first phase ‘A Time for Love’, a soldier searches for a young woman he met one afternoon playing pool. The next segment, ‘Time for Freedom’ is set in a brothel and it revolves around a singer’s longing to escape her surroundings. ‘A Time for Youth’, the concluding part portrays a triangle, in which a singer has an affair with a photographer while her partner suffers.
In the first two stories, letters are crucial to the outcome; in the third, it is cellphone calls, text messages, and a computer file. Over the years between the tales, as sexual intimacy becomes more likely and words more free, communication recedes. Sources: hindustantimes.com
